SAMYANG RELEASE XEEN 14MM T3.1 & 35MM T1.5 CINE-VIDEO LENSES

Korean lens manufacturer Samyang Optics has just released two new wide-angle, full-frame video lenses, the Xeen 14mm T3.1 and 35mm T1.5. The two new lenses, complete the company’s five cinematic/video lens set, alongside the existing 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5 lenses.

The Xeen set of lenses has been designed specifically for 4K filmmaking and videography and features the company’s X-Coating Technology, used to create a cinematic look.

All of the lenses are manual focus only, but their focus and gear rings sit in the same positions on each lens, allowing them to easily be switched out easily when on rigs. Of the new lenses, the 35mm conforms to the set standard T1.5 aperture, whereas the 14mm only has an aperture of T3.1, making it less useful in low lighting situations.

The 24mm x 36mm negative size means the lenses will work with both full frame cameras and Super 35, APS-C and APS-H cameras. All of the lenses feature aluminium housing and come in either metric or imperial units, with PL, EF, F, E, and MFT mounts available.

The Xeen lenses have been praised in the past for their ability to render beautiful bokeh in their out of focus fields and the new 35mm features the sets 11-blade diaphragm (the wider lenses use a 9-blade iris).

The company has said it plans to release two more Xeen lenses before the year end.
