The latest interface to join Tascam’s range is the Track Factory. Actually, it’s far more than an interface — it’s a complete audio production system!
The system is built around a 2.7GHz Intel NUC mini computer with 3MB cache, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD, running Windows 10 Home Edition that has been optimised by PC Audio Labs for digital multitrack recording and editing.
It also has four USB3 ports, a MiniDisplay port 1.2, a mini HDMI 1.4a port, gigabit Ethernet, wi-fi, and Bluetooth 4.2 all housed in a tiny 4 x 4-inch form factor. Tascam have even included a USB mouse and keyboard for good measure,
So what’s the deal with Tascam selling computers? The company hopes that it’ll solve compatibility and setup issues — the kind of hurdles that stunt many a budding recording enthusiast when getting their first bits of gear together.
Bundled with Cakewalk Sonar pre-installed on the PC, you’re ready to roll with minimal effort. The accompanying interface of choice is Tascam’s US-2×2, with two combo mic/line instrument inputs with 24-bit/96k resolution and zero-latency monitoring.
Of course, a microphone is a must for any ADR or VO work, so Tascam has thrown in its own TM-80 medium-diaphragm cardioid condenser with shock-mount and cable. Sealing the deal is the Tascam TH-02 closed-back foldable headphones for monitoring and mixing.
