For the past 40 years the Film & Television Institute WA Inc (FTI) has been the premier centre of excellence at the forefront of fostering an innovative and diverse independent screen community and culture throughout Western Australia and gratefully acknowledges the financial assistance of the Screen Australia, ScreenWest & Lotterywest. FTI is also a key member of Screen Development Australia (SDA), a national network of state screen resource and development centres.

 

WA State Pitching Competition
The WA State Pitching Competition is an opportunity for emerging filmmakers to talk their way in front of industry investors at the 2013 SPAA Conference. West Australian producers are encouraged to apply by submitting their TV, transmedia or feature film concepts to FTI by 17 October 2013. The best concepts will be selected to compete in live pitch-off at FTI on the 31 October. The WA State Pitching Competition is supported by ScreenWest and presented by FTI in association with Screen Network and the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA).

Let’s Make Games Showcase
The Let’s Make Games WA Games Showcase is Western Australia’s largest presentation of local games and interactive developers. The free, all ages event is a platform for WA game developers to show-off their latest creations and back catalogues, and for the general public to learn about the local gamemaking community. The Let’s Make Game’s Showcase will take place from 1pm on Saturday, 5 October 2013 at the Central Institute of Technology, East Perth Campus.

 

 

NFSA Big Shorts
A special WA Metro screening of the NFSA’s “Big Screen” film festival is happening in Northbridge on October 27. “Big Screen” is a travelling short film festival which presents new and archival films to audiences all over Australia. The free, public screening will be presented on the Perth Cultural Centre Super-Screen, located in the James St Amphitheatre.

Fallout: Lanius
Set in the world of popular video game series, Fallout, Wade K Savage’s, Fallout: Lanius is making a big impact across the globe, attracting a massive 300,000 views on YouTube in its first week online. The blood soaked, self-funded, fan film, explores the origin story of Legate Lanius, the primary antagonist from 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas.

 
 
Indigenous Community Stories
Cultural preservation initiative, Indigenous Community Stories will travel to Derby this October to record the dreaming stories, customs, dances, art, language, law and significant oral histories of local elders and families from the region. Indigenous community leaders and filmmakers interested in participating in the ongoing initiative are encouraged to contact FTI on (08) 9431 6700. Indigenous Community Stories is administered by FTI and proudly supported by ScreenWest, Rio Tinto and Leighton Holdings.
