Blackmagic Design has announced the release Camera 1.9.7 software for its Cinema and Pocket Cinema cameras with dashboard onscreen menus and with new SD disk formatting.
The new feature allows users to format SSDs and SD cards in camera – the camera confirms the brand of disk and other disks parameters and then formats for highest speed video data recording and playback for that specific disk. The company says that as new disks become available, matching software updates will be released to take advantage of any unique features of disks for maximum performance when recording high data rate Raw 4K images.
Users also get the opportunity to choose between two disk formats: ExFAT and HFS+. The ExFAT is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X and is a good choice when customers are working on Windows or between the two platforms, while HFS+ is the native Mac OS format and allows higher performance for Mac users as well as better error protection as it supports journaling.
The new dashboard menu allows fast selection of actions on camera functions. Users can choose to format disks, enable focus peaking, go to the settings page and other camera operations on big easy-to-use buttons.
Camera 1.9.7 is available now for download here, and is free of charge for all owners of either (or both) the BMPCC & BMCCs.
