According to the marketing people at DJI, the Ronin provides effortless camera stabilization for creating smooth video using any camera and lens configuration, from RED Epic to Micro Four Thirds Cameras, weighing up to 16 lbs (7.26 kg). Ronin is based on the industry-leading ZenMuse stabilization technology developed by DJI for its aerial camera platforms and is easy to set up – requiring only a few minutes of calibration when changing lenses.
Since its debut at NAB in April several key features have been added to the Ronin to make it more stable, easier to use. Single camera operators can attach an optional joystick to set camera angles to create smooth gimbal movements. For more precise control, use a second operator to wirelessly control pan, tilt, and other gimbal functions.
After balancing the camera, simply tapping the auto calibration button on the DJI Ronin smartphone app and the gimbal will automatically tune all stabilizing motors, ensuring filmmakers get the
smoothest possible footage.
“With the DJI Ronin we set out to remake the stabilized handheld gimbal experience to ensure production teams can focus on unleashing their creativity and getting shots that were previously impossible, rather than spend hours balancing and tuning their gimbal,” said product manager for DJI Ronin’s design, Paul Pan (with a name like that we’re expecting it to function well).
With DJI LightBridge installed, production teams can monitor the Ronin’s footage in full HD (1080p @30 fps) from up to 1.05 miles (1.7 kilometers) away with a less than 80 millisecond delay. Monitors or other accessories can be installed on the top bar using the accessory mount.
