Nikon has recently launched two new lenses worth taking a look at. First up, a new telephoto zoom, the Nikkor AFS DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II, along with the Nikkor AFS 300mm f/4E PF ED VR. Both lenses are lightweight, with a compact build and high-quality optical construction.
AFS DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II
This new Nikkor brand telephoto 55-200mm zoom view is equivalent to an 82-300mm lens on a full-frame 35mm digital camera.
It features a f/4 to 5.6 aperture range with a rounded, seven-blade diaphragm for smooth, bokeh and out-of-focus elements. Along with a 52mm front thread to attach filters and other accessories to the lens.
The lens also features a Silent Wave Motor, for quiet auto-focus whilst filming and vibration reduction that allows the user to set shutter speed up to 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible before camera shake becomes apparent (in still images) or when shooting in in low-light. Optical distortion is minimised by the use of Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass and flareing/ghosting is reduced due to the lenses Super Integrated Coating.
- F Mount Lens / DX Format
- Maximum Aperture Range: f/4 to 5.6
- Minimum Aperture Range: f/22 to 32
- Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) Glass
- Super Integrated Coating
- Silent Wave Motor AF System
- Nikon VR II Image Stabilization
- Manual Focus Override
- Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm
- Compact and Lightweight

AFS NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR
One of the best features of this lens is the fact it weighs in at only 1.6lbs (725 gms) making it the lightest 300mm lens on the market.
Nikon has combined a Phase Fresnel (PF) lens element with an Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element in the lens construction, making it not only light to hold but removing chromatic aberration and ghosting completely (so the company says). The front lens features fluorine coating, to repel dust, water, grease, and dirt. Along with a Nano Crystal Coat on the elements to minimise surface and internal reflections. Background blur and bokeh is enhanced by the lenses rounded nine-blade diaphragm.
This lens also features the same Silent Wave AF system and Vibration Reduction that the 55-200 telephoto lens does, making it great for when you’re filming action scenes or sports.
- F Mount Lens/FX Format
- Aperture Range: f/4 to 32
- One Phase Fresnel & One ED Element
- Nano Crystal & Super Integrated Coating
- Fluorine Coated Front Lens Element
- Silent Wave Motor AF System
- Nikon VR Image Stabilization (4.5 Stops)
- Internal Focus, Manual Focus Override
- Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
- Lighter & More Compact than Predecessor
