There have been a number of hit movies made this year which were graded on DaVinci Resolve. It seems to have become the go-to software for many post houses around the globe.
Blackmagic Design are certainly very proud their grading software has made such a significant impact in cinema, we receive numerous emails each month announcing new films that have incorporated Resolve into their post productions.
It’s no surprise that the software has become so well used, it’s actually very good at what it does. Not to mention that the free version has a lot of the best features from the paid version, which we think is pretty darn great of BM, it helps foster creativity & quality in indie cinema and allows new colourists to get their feet wet without hurting their hip pockets.
So, today’s announcement regarding the slew of new films to have gone through a Resolve grade was no surprise, still, it’s kind of cool to know your micro-budget short uses the same workflow that Hollywood blockbuster’s use.
The latest round of films graded on DaVinci Resolve are, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes graded by Shane Harris and X-Men: Days of Future Past graded by Stephen Nakamura from Company 3, a Deluxe Creative Services company with facilities throughout the globe.
Also, Colour Collective, a New York City based post production studio, handled colour for a variety of Sundance favorites and indie hits set to be released this summer. Colourist Alex Bickel was responsible for grading Land Ho!, Night Moves and Ping Pong Summer (feature image).
And lastly, to those of us still grappling with the basics of Resolve Lite, let these films and the colourists who have worked on them, be that high rung in the achievement ladder to work towards.
