Popcorn Taxi, Monster Fest and Warner Bros. Present:
A Night with Linda Blair and the 40th Anniversary screening of THE EXORCIST.
What can be said of William Friedkin’s brilliant horror movie that hasn’t been said before? 40 years later and the film continues to resonate, scare people witless and inspire filmmakers and scriptwriters.
Novelist William Peter Blatty based his best-seller on the last known Catholic-sanctioned exorcism in the United States. Blatty transformed the boy in the 1949 incident into a girl named Regan, played by 14-year-old Linda Blair. Regan’s erratic behaviour heralds a horrific transformation that he fearful mother, Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), has no answers for.
Without options and fearful for Regan’s life, Chris calls in young priest Father Karras (Jason Miller), who becomes convinced that Regan is possessed by a demon and urges her mother to call in an exorcist. Enter Father Merrin (Max von Sydow).
But the demon proves to be a far more threatening entity than they first imagined and Father Merrin and Regan must battle not only the supernatural but also their greatest fears if they have any hope of survival.
The Exorcist received a theatrical re-release in 2000, in a special edition that added 11 minutes of footage trimmed from the film’s original release and digitally enhanced Chris Newman’s Oscar-winning sound work.
This is the first screening of the film in 2K in Australia—offering unrivaled clarity in sound and vision.
Linda Blair is best known for her role in The Exorcist as the unfortunate young victim of demonic possession, Regan, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award and took home a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
Linda Blair will be live on stage at Event Cinemas George Street to answer all of your questions following the screening. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to speak to the woman behind one of the most iconic characters in modern cinema.
