Shooting in 4K has become the norm for many filmmakers of late, but until now cinematographers have lit their subjects with standard lighting. Not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with standard lighting, but as far as we can tell, this is the first camera light specifically designed with 4K shooting in mind.
Foxdio Pro’s LED100WB is a soft 5600k, 100-watt studio light with the luminance output of a roughly 400+ watt Tungsten. It features a compact form factor and a quick-release Balcar bayonet front mount that’s compatible with Alien Bee, Paul C, Buff and Einstein lighting accessories.
The light comes with a metal reflector, a diffuser and a portable folding 24” Softbox and is sold as a single or in a 3-light kit with its own luggage-style rolling case.
“The world is shooting in 4K, and we wanted to create something that would stand up to its amazing creative potential,” says Bohus Blahut, marketing director for Fotodiox Pro.
“In addition to already being quite versatile [it] is a perfect light for exciting visuals like time-lapse and slow motion. Go ahead and bump frame rates up to 120fps, we’ve designed the LED100WB to provide a uniform soft light, with no flickering.”
